Geometry, simplicity, and movement: these are the pillars on which our view of tailoring rests. Traditional tailoring is an art form encompassing the process of hand-making an entire garment. From sketching the pattern to cutting the fabric – the steps that trace the harmonic line of the piece in question – to placing the thousands of stitches that join the cloth to its wool, haircloth, linen, or cotton interlinings, everything will be done by hand. This process takes a minimum of two months starting with taking measurements, and will include an average of four fittings.
SEMI TRADITIONAL TAILORING
The semi-traditional approach to tailoring combines artisanal and mechanized techniques. The measurement process is based on a pre-defined pattern that is altered to reflect the client’s exact measurements. This delivers a personalized custom pattern that will be followed in the subsequent steps of cutting and sewing. The basic pattern we use comes from traditional tailoring (very elaborate and stylized) and it may also be modified to reflect the client’s preferences. The semi-traditional tailoring process has a minimum deadline of one month and includes such fittings as are necessary.
We place considerable emphasis on the study, development, and improvement of patterns. To this end, we work with the best professionals in the field to provide a wide variety of authentic designs while remaining on the lookout for new fits. We may find our inspiration in garments from past centuries, or else in more contemporary styles. We elaborate unique patterns according to each customer’s measurements, but we can also create patterns from existing garments at no additional cost.
We work with the finest cloth manufacturers in the world and we have over 15,000 references. To cite a few examples, we use the best Italian lightweight wools and silks as well as English worsteds from the mills of Yorkshire, flannels from the west of England, and tweeds from the Borders, Yorkshire, the Highlands and the Isle of Harris, and County Donegal. We have the best vicuna in the world and an excellent cashmere. Furthermore, we are happy to work with fabrics provided by the client.
