Honourable mention award to OTEYZA,
awarded by Ministerio de Agricultura, Pesca y Alimentación, for the integration of this material in high craftsmanship and contemporary fashion.
OTEYZA creates ‘Transhumancia Digital’, a pioneering project that seeks to recover and redefine Spanish merino wool in the fashion industry through cooperation, sustainability, digitalisation and craftsmanship. Combining tradition and innovation, the project implements a comprehensive strategy involving research, production, marketing and dissemination with an ethical and sustainable approach.
This project not only has an impact on the textile industry, but also promotes rural development, encourages the circular economy and strengthens Spanish cultural identity at a global level. Through a network of collaboration with livestock farmers, designers, institutions and industry experts, ‘Transhumancia Digital’ guarantees product traceability and the creation of unique pieces that revalue the country’s artisanal heritage.
Livestock Lands
Our key to the preservation of merino wool has been the union with livestock farms that guarantee ethical and sustainable production, contributing to the traceability of the product.
Currently, the group has 20,000 kilos of merino wool, classified by differentiated quality batches, 100% Spanish merino, certified by an approved laboratory and ready to be transformed into yarn for valuable garments.

This group is made up of 9 historical Spanish merino herds, with 10,000 pure merino animals of 100% native breed. These herds are working on the selection and classification of their flocks to offer artisans and textile entrepreneurs a fibre of differentiated quality, with genuine properties that allow them to weave and make woollen garments and suits of exceptional quality. All the production is transformed, conditioned and made in Spain, as a product of proximity and 100% ethical and Spanish.

Oteyza designs and produces high craftsmanship pieces with Spanish merino wool, thus consolidating its drive towards sustainability, innovation and collaboration with all the agents involved in this project. Through a production model that integrates craftsmanship, industry and a strong commitment to the preservation of Spanish merino wool: optimising each phase of the value chain to ensure maximum use of resources and achieve maximum refinement of the material and its processes.
This approach includes the production of textile pieces made with merino wool, working on perfecting the functionality and durability of the garments.
